Wide Mottled Painted Teak Shelf - 1940

This vintage Indian teak shelf has a strong decorative character. Layers of faded blue, green, ochre and earthy brown paint remain across the frame, creating an attractive mottled patina that reveals decades of natural wear and use.

Handcrafted in India around 1940, the open construction features three wide slatted shelves supported by a substantial teak frame with diagonal cross-bracing to the back and sides. The combination of its broad proportions, open design and richly aged painted surface makes it an excellent display piece for ceramics, books, textiles or decorative objects.

Practical as well as characterful, it would work particularly well in a large kitchen, hallway, bathroom or relaxed living space.
