Description

This Indian brass two-way pickle dish, known as a Dusakar, dates to circa 1940 and is a wonderful example of traditional everyday Indian household utensils. Originally used for serving pickles, chutneys and other condiments alongside meals, these practical vessels were a familiar sight in Indian homes.

The simple yet ingenious design features two cylindrical brass containers joined together beneath a distinctive circular carrying handle, allowing different accompaniments to be served together and easily carried to the table. The brass has developed a beautiful, naturally aged patina, with warm coppery tones, areas of darkening and traces of verdigris that reflect decades of use.

Once an everyday household essential, this characterful piece now makes an unusual decorative accessory. Perfect for storing keys, loose change or small household items, it could also be repurposed as a desk tidy or used to display small potted plants.
