Koson (1877 - 1945) was a master woodblock print designer famous for bird and flower designs (kachō-e). Koston was involved in the€œShin- hanga€� new art movement in early 20thC Japan, it€™s literal meaning €œnew woodcut€� block prints.

From 1926 through his association with Watanabe Shōzaburō and other publishers he gained popularity and his works were exhibited abroad. His work is held in many museums worldwide.

He died in Tokyo in 1945

Throughout a prolific career, he created approx 500 prints.  Signed in 3 different names. Ohara Hōson (小原豊邨), Ohara Shōson (小原祥邨) and Ohara Koson
