This stunning and rare painted Tibetan Altar Cabinet, known as a Torkham, is an original 18thC piece. Wonderful detailed painting of two monasteries. It also features two figures, a Lama, (Tibetan monk), and another traveller in a striped fur trimmed coat, from outside Tibet - possibly Mongolia.
Auspicious symbols abound, such as the Wheel of Dharma, a Wind Horse and an Elephant carrying jewels. The jewels are part of an offering of seven jewels given to the Buddha.

This unique cabinet is constructed from cedar, a locally sourced timber. The main field colours of graduated  tones of golds. There are some traces of the original paint on the top.
