A Rajasthani tribal silver amulet depicting the ghost king hero Bhumiya Raj. Bhumiya Raj was the Indian tribal chief who died defending the village. Every village would have its own Bhumiya Raj and it is believed that he rides around the villages at night dispelling evil spirits. The four eyelets at the top allow for suspension via a cord or chain.

These traditional tribal silver amulets come from Rajasthan and are made by the repousse technique (hammering the design from the reverse). Although high silver content, these pieces are not always sterling silver. These amulets would have originated in temples and been worn by pilgrims.
