This excellent pair of tribal doors comes from Nagaland, North East India. Likely to be doors to the tribal leaders' homes, the abstract design is that of buffalo horns. Each door is carved from a single piece of wood from the hollock tree (terminalia myriocarpa) also known as the East Indian almond tree.
Nagaland is a relatively inaccessible and unexplored area of India which borders Myanmar. The people live in villages set throughout the jungle and until the introduction of Christianity in the 1960's, the people of Nagaland were headhunters, regularly going to war with other nearby villages.
