This old Tibetan painted door is a striking piece of wall art featuring playful frolicking yaks beneath two jewel spitting mongooses. The mongooses are connected with the god of wealth Dzambhala (Jambhala in Sanskrit) and expel jewels of wisdom. They also are the natural enemy of nagas & snakes.

The mongooses sit on either side of a bowl of jewels while the yaks are on either side of a Yin Yang symbol. Jewels in Tibetan art are a common motif that represents knowledge passed down by Buddha.

The panels would have originally been a door to either a temple or monastery. They are created by overlaying painted canvas onto wooden doors.

It is around 100 years old and was likely made in Nepal in the 1920's

Supplied with wall hangers.
