Indian Kothla Majus Chest From Gujarat - 19thC

This limed teak dowry chest has been reduced in depth to create a dramatic console table. It is perfect for storage of bedding for occasional guests. Indian dowry chests come in a great many shapes and styles. The name kothla majus refers to this particular style which is most commonly found in the desert state of Gujarat in Northern India. 

Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India. They were usually made from teak, rosewood or jackfruit wood and were used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewellery and cash.

Our pieces are mostly from the 19th century & occasionally 18th and early 20th century. Please note that this piece is very heavy.
