This elegant antique Indian book cabinet dates to the 19th century and is crafted from richly patinated teak wood, most likely originating from Gujarat. Designed in a refined Regency style, it reflects the strong Western influence introduced during the colonial period, particularly by the British and Portuguese, resulting in a harmonious blend of Indian craftsmanship and European design sensibilities.
The cabinet features glazed double doors with a distinctive paneled grid, offering both protection and display for books or collected objects. Inside, a series of sturdy shelves provide ample storage, while the warm tone and natural grain of the teak have developed a deep, characterful patina over time. Originally used in offices and private homes, this piece remains both highly practical and visually striking today.
