This Anglo-Indian teak shelving unit dates from the 1930s, during the late Raj period, and is a wonderfully characterful example of practical colonial furniture. Crafted from solid teak, it retains traces of its original painted finish, now softly weathered and worn through decades of use. Areas of natural paint loss reveal the warm tones of the timber beneath, creating a beautifully layered patina that reflects its long working life.

The design is simple and highly functional, with two slatted shelves framed by sturdy upright posts and open sides. A gallery rail along the top adds both structural support and a subtle decorative detail. The slatted construction allows light and air to circulate, making it ideal for storing books, shoes, linens or everyday household items.

Now approaching a century in age, the piece remains strong, stable and practical, demonstrating the durability of teak and traditional craftsmanship. With its relaxed, timeworn surface and understated design, it would suit a wide range of interiors including hallways, bathrooms, kitchens or relaxed country and coastal homes.
