This beautiful Tibetan butter teapot is a very good quality reproduction. It is made from repousse worked metal alloys in the traditional style. It has an elegant handle in the shape of a dragon with a mythical makara beast spout. Makara has the trunk of an elephant, the jaw of a crocodile, the tusks of a boar, and the feet of a lion. It is the tenth sign of the Indian zodiac corresponding to Capricorn.
The repousse work is mostly repeating floral designs with a lotus petal design on the base. Used in Tibet to serve Yak tea. It would make a very dramatic statement piece with accent lighting.
