This small traditional bowl is crafted from burr wood with silver detailing. It dates to circa 1900. Bowls like this are culturally Tibetan but found across Tibet, Kashmir, Mongolia & Bhutan. Burr wood was preferred due to its density and durability as well as its decorative nature. These bowls were used for both tea and tsampa (barley flour dough, the usual Tibetan meal).  The silver is beautifully hand-beaten. An iconic gift for a collector of Tibetan art. with beautiful silver decor along the base.

Similar bowls can be found in various museums around the world including the V&A, Philadelphia Museum of Art & National Museum Liverpool.
