    Title

This reproduction Chinese sang de boeuf meiping vase has a beautiful sheen. It is hand turned on a potters wheel by skilled artists using traditional techniques learnt from their family passed down through generations.

The classic meiping shape (often called plum shape) was designed to hold a single branch of tree blossom. This elegant vase was inspired by the shape of the female body and was particularly popular during the Song (960 - 1279 AD) & Ming (1368 - 1644 AD) dynasties.

Sang de boeuf was one of a number of new flambé glazes, marked by unpredictable but highly decorative and varying effects. It was first developed in the Jingdezhen porcelain kilns during the Kangxi reign (1662-1722). Sang de boeuf refers to the colour which translates to French for 'ox blood', a colour created by oxidising iron & copper.

All our reproduction Chinese porcelain is made in Jingdezhen which has been the capital of Chinese porcelain production since 1004 AD. The famous imperial kilns have been sited there since the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644 AD).
