This porcelain parrot joss stick holder is a contemporary reproduction of a traditional Chinese decorative form, combining sculptural presence with practical use. Modelled as a perched parrot with stylised feather detailing, the piece is finished in a glossy sancai glaze, giving it a vibrant yet balanced surface.
Sancai, meaning “three colours” in Chinese, refers to a glazing tradition that developed in China during the Tang dynasty, characterised by the flowing interaction of coloured glazes across the surface. In this contemporary interpretation, the sancai glaze allows tones of green, blue, and natural earth colours to merge and pool organically, ensuring that each parrot displays subtle variations in colour and finish.
Designed to hold incense or joss sticks, this piece functions as both a decorative object and a practical accessory. Hand crafted and hand glazed by skilled ceramicists in China, it works well as a small accent on a shelf, console, or side table. Available in green or blue.
