This striking Chinese vase is handmade in Jingdezhen and finished with a rich green copper yaobian glaze. The firing process creates natural variations in colour and tone, ranging from turquoise and jade green to deeper teal, together with a finely crackled surface and distinctive glaze runs.
The rounded body is formed with subtle vertical ribs and finished with a thick rolled rim, giving the vase a strong, sculptural shape. As each piece is handmade and individually fired, variations in the glaze are an inherent part of its character.
Jingdezhen has been an important centre of Chinese porcelain production for over a thousand years and was home to the celebrated imperial kilns during the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644).
