This beautiful Chinese reverse glass painting dates to the 19th century. Skillfully painted on the reverse side of the glass, these were popular with the wealthy class of society during Georgian period in England, along with Chinoiserie painted furniture. Sadly it has lost its original frame and has been re-framed in a pine frame. Note this painting has historic cracks in visible in photographs.
Note-the identical pair to this painting is in the Peabody Essex Museum, collection no. M8874. Both date to circa 1858.
Provided with wire for wall hanging.
