This Chinese red leather trunk dates to the end of the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911). Chinese leather trunks have been used for many hundreds of years with the classic style changing very little. This parcel gilt work style appeared at the end of the 19th century. These chests were made for traveling and storage of clothing they are robust and work well in a contemporary western space as a coffee table, or for storage.

This charming leather trunk is in great condition for over one hundred years old. It has raised gilt painted shou symbols, stylised bats and lotus flowers to the front and sides, all symbols of good fortune. It has the original brass locking plate and handles.
