This vibrant red lacquered sideboard hails from Dongbei (Manchuria) and dates to the 1920s (Dong means East - Bei means North). Characterised by its hand painted floral, bird, insect, fish and landscape motifs, it exemplifies the artistry of northern Chinese decorative furniture. The piece was traditionally used in domestic storage. The brilliant cinnabar-red lacquer, delicate painted detailing, and original brass fittings speak to its regional identity.
The cabinet is constructed from pine wood, finished in layers of lacquer typical of the region, with ornate floral scenes across the doors and lower frieze panels. Inside, you'll find a spacious and beautifully aged dark wood interior that complements its ornate exterior. The doors open fully to reveal a single wide shelf spanning the length of the piece, offering excellent storage capacity for both functional and decorative use.
