Originally created to juice fruit and vegetables, this stylish and functional antique Chinese juicer is as perfectly useable today as it was when first made and It would also make a unique decorative ornament.
Purchased together with a juicer dated to 1894, it dates to the late Qing dynasty - circa 1900.
These juicers were found across China and this particular piece is made from jumu (red elm / southern elm / zelkova). The wood suggests it most likely is from Jiangsu province. Red elm (jumu / 榉木), also known as zelkova or 'southern elm' is considered a superior wood to yumu, its northern cousin. n.
