Provincial Late Ming Style Blue & White Porcelain Vase

This elegant blue and white porcelain vase is a finely made provincial-style reproduction inspired by historic Chinese ceramics. The gently rounded baluster form is decorated with hand-painted abstract cloud scroll motifs in soft cobalt blue tones, set against a pale, luminous ground. The design reflects the freer, more expressive vocabulary often seen in provincial wares, where symbolic and abstract patterns were favoured over highly formalised court decoration.

The surface is finished with a deliberately aged crackle glaze, creating a network of fine fissures that lend depth and texture to the piece. Subtle variations in tone and pooling within the glaze closely echo antique examples, while the loose, flowing brushwork gives the vase a calm, understated presence rather than a sharply modern appearance.

Porcelain has been made there continuously since 1004 AD, and the renowned imperial kilns were established in the city during the Ming dynasty (1368–1644 AD).
