This reproduction Chinese blue & white porcelain fish bowl is hand painted and made in the classic Ming style. It is perfect for a garden planter. The fish is a longstanding symbol of wealth in China as the Chinese symbol for fish 'yu' can also be translated to 'abundance'. In ancient China, a fish in water symbolised marital harmony.
These were originally used to keep fish in (usually koi carp). Today, they are far more likely to be used as planters and are made in small batches by hand. Most potters have learned their craft from the elders of their family and these skills have been handed down through the generations. Porcelain is steeped in centuries of Chinese culture and history. Even though pottery developed in China 15,000 years ago, most experts believe that true porcelain (which also originated in China) didn't emerge in the region until the Han Dynasty (202 BC to 220 AD). Blue and white porcelain is glazed using a transparent porcelain glaze dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907). Chinese dragons are a symbol of power, strength, and good luck The Emperors of China used the dragon as a symbol of their imperial power and strength. From China
