This beautiful console table has been crafted from reclaimed wood salvaged from old buildings in Rajasthan and Gujarat. While the structure itself is newly made, it incorporates original antique teak wood architectural carvings, including exquisite peacock motifs—symbolising beauty and renewal in Indian design—and a central stylised lotus rosette.

In North Indian and Rajasthani architectural art the lotus (padma) is a primary auspicious emblem. The roundel’s centre functions as the padma-nābhi (“lotus-navel”) or bindu—the generative point from which creation unfolds, recalling the myth of Brahmā emerging upon a lotus from Viṣṇu. The concentric, many-petalled (bahu-dala) carving radiates outward like a mandala/yantra, a visual schema of cosmic order and spiritual ascent. In this idiom the lotus conveys purity (rising unstained from muddy waters), creation and prosperity (the lotus as divine seat), and transcendence (the opening of consciousness). The surrounding foliate scrolls extend that auspicious energy across the panel, echoing temple lintels and domestic portals in Rajasthan and Gujarat.

The combination of aged teak carvings and reclaimed timbers gives this piece a rich sense of history and depth of texture. Strong, decorative, and environmentally responsible, it blends heritage craftsmanship with modern practicality, making it a striking and sustainable feature for any interior.
