Peranakan Ceramic Tile Mirror from India

This colourful Peranakan ceramic tile mirror has been created using original decorative tiles dating from the 1920s, framed in dark wood around a central mirror. The rich green and cream tiles are decorated with repeating pink rose motifs, creating a bold geometric pattern with a distinctly Art Deco feel.

The ceramic tiles were originally made in Japan, drawing inspiration from European majolica designs, before being exported to Singapore and Southeast Asia. They became an important decorative feature of Peranakan architecture, particularly on the façades and interiors of shophouses and family homes.

The tiles used here were sourced in India and have been carefully re-purposed into unique mirrors.
