This Javanese chest from Indonesia dates to the 19th century. This style is often called a Madura chest as they are found on both the islands of Madura & Java. The style has a clear Chinese influence.

This chest is made from Indonesian teak wood with three painted drawers. A low chest of drawers like this is rare to find in Western furniture.

The brass locking plates are original to the piece and have ring pulls added below for ease of use replacing the original necessity for keys. The locks have long since been removed.

Dimensions:

87 x 48 x 54 (wxdxh cms)
