This lovely limed teak door has been salvaged from an old building in Diu, a coastal town in Gujarat which had a strong Portuguese presence. The Portuguese influence can be seen in the classic sunburst design on the door panels.
These doors are saved from buildings in India which have fallen into a state of disrepair and are no longer in a repairable state. As with most Indian doors, they would have originally operated on a pin and post system and not on hinges. The frame has been customised to allow for hanging with modern hinges. They would have originally opened inwards. As with most Indian doors, they are made from solid teak and the uprights have stone bases.
Although this is a heavy piece, Indigo Antiques have a trained delivery team to bring it into your home. We can provide assembly advice to your builders however we will need to discuss your hinge and hanging requirements before arranging delivery. Hinges may incur a small additional charge depending on your specifications.
