This beautifully carved teak Nandi bull from Rajasthan dates to the early 20th century, circa 1940. Representing Nandi, the sacred bull and devoted mount of Lord Shiva, such figures hold deep spiritual significance within Hindu tradition and are often found in temple settings as symbols of strength, devotion, and protection.

Hand-carved from solid teak, this piece has a striking naïve form, with elongated legs and a gently stylised head. Its surface retains layers of original hand-painted decoration, with soft, time-worn tones of white, red, and turquoise creating a rich, textured patina. The natural wear and weathering only enhance its character, telling the story of its age and use.
