Painted Sunburst Almirah Cabinet - 19th Century

This striking green painted Sunburst Almirah cabinet is a beautifully carved statement piece, rich in surface texture and historic influence. Constructed from teak and finished with a soft lime-washed green paint, the cabinet displays layers of age, wear, and patina that give it exceptional depth and character.

The carved sunburst panels are particularly evocative, showing a strong Portuguese colonial influence that filtered into Indian furniture design during the 18th and 19th centuries. Each lower sunburst panel is centred with a carved human face, lending the piece a sculptural, almost talismanic quality. The upper section of the cabinet is mirrored, enhancing light and adding contrast to the richly weathered exterior.

Inside, the cabinet offers practical storage with two interior shelves, while the whole piece is framed by turned columns, carved detailing, and two lower drawers that complete its balanced architectural form.
