    This decorative antique Chinese screen window is from an inner courtyard dating from the 19th century. It is built from yumu (Chinese northern elm wood). These antique windows would have come from a home in Shanxi, Northern China - Qing dynasty (1644-1911)

    The bat was considered a symbol of luck in China. This is due to the word for bat (fu 蝠) and good fortune (fu 福 sounding identical. Bats are considered very self sufficient and a symbol of independence.
