These characterful milk pots originate from the Kullu Valley in Himachal Pradesh and date to the early 20th century. Hand-turned from a single solid piece of cedar wood, they were everyday domestic vessels used for storing and transporting milk, making them essential objects in rural Himalayan life.

Each pot displays beautifully worn horizontal ring lines left by the turning process, lending every example a strong sculptural quality and ensuring no two are exactly alike. The gently tapered form, wide mouth, and original wooden lid—often tethered with rope—reflect a purely functional design shaped by generations of use. Today, these vessels make striking floor vases or sculptural containers, particularly well suited to displaying dried branches or flowers.

As utilitarian objects that were used daily, surface wear is evident, including small cracks, splits, and old repairs. These honest signs of age only enhance their authenticity and visual appeal.
