Suzanis were traditionally made by Central Asian brides and their family as part of their dowry. The completed piece was presented to the groom's family on their wedding day .
Each suzani is hand stitched on cotton and completely unique. Suzanis are traditionally the work of The Uzbek people. The word 'suzani' derives from the Farsi word for 'needle' and involves highly skilled wonderful silk embroidery, they make wonderful bed covers or a very dramatic wall covering or curtain.
This one with its vivid mustard yellow field is a very striking piece. It has some colour run in places.
