This quirky painted vintage leopard figurine is from Orissa (now Odisha), Eastern India. Dates from circa 1920

Toys, puppets, and dolls are an essential part of growing up in Odisha and are often vividly painted in garish colours. The better quality pieces like this one are painted onto cloth laminated on wood.

A similar example can be found in the Kala Bhoomi Odisha Crafts Museum in Bhubaneswar. Please note the historic damage visible in the images.
