This old mortar is from Nagaland and in East India and was originally used for the pounding of grains. It is crafted from a single piece of solid teak wood. This amazing piece of timber would make an iconic statement piece coffee table. Over many decades of constant use, this piece has developed a smooth finish and rich patina. Mortars like this were in constant daily use and signs and wear and repairs are visible in places.

Nagaland is a state of India bordering Burma (Myanmar). Until as late as 1969, the Naga tribes practiced head-hunting and preserved the heads of enemies as trophies.

A glass top can be procured for you at an additional cost.
