The rich history of the Persian carpet goes back to at least 400BC when according to Xenophon, they were so highly prized they were often used as diplomatic gifts. Today, they have gained notoriety across the globe for their beautiful, colourful and complex designs and are well known for their quality and durability with the potential for a single rug to last centuries given the right care.
This style of rug gets it's name from the Mehraban district in northern Persia where it's created. The region is famed for it's wool which has a high fat content which gives the carpet a rich shiny look.
