Large Blue & White Porcelain Planter - Dragon

This striking blue and white porcelain planter is decorated with powerful dragons coiling amongst swirling clouds in pursuit of sacred flaming pearls. In Chinese culture, the dragon is an auspicious symbol associated with strength, wisdom, prosperity and imperial authority. Traditionally believed to command water, rain and storms, it was regarded as a benevolent force capable of bringing abundance and good fortune.

The finely painted dragons are surrounded by stylised cloud formations and framed by intricate decorative borders around the rim and base. The dense cobalt decoration and carefully rendered scales draw inspiration from the celebrated blue and white porcelain of the Ming dynasty.

Each planter is individually thrown on the potter’s wheel and hand-painted by skilled artisans in Jingdezhen, China’s historic porcelain capital. Traditional cobalt-blue underglaze techniques are used before the piece is glazed and high-fired, creating the brilliant white porcelain body and rich blue decoration for which Jingdezhen is renowned.

Perfect for displaying a large houseplant or small indoor tree, this substantial planter also makes a striking decorative statement when displayed on its own.
