These beautifully lacquered Indian candle sticks are antique pieces from Rajasthan dating to the beginning of the 20th century. Lacquering is done by the craftsman on a hand-powered lathe. The wood is spun and a lac stick is pressed against it. As it spins friction softens the lac which coats the surface of the wood.
