This old Japanese woodblock triptych is by Meiji era woodblock print artist Yōshū (Hashimoto) Chikanobu. This woodblock is entitled "New Year's Kagamibiraki Ceremony" and is taken from the series 'Chiyoda no on omote (The central office of the Edo castle).'
It records a Kagami biraki ceremony where mochi rice cakes are broken and eaten. The full triptych can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art & the British Museum.
