This old Japanese woodblock print is by woodblock print artist Utagawa Kunisada I (Toyokuni III, 1786-1865) and it is the central panel of a larger triptych.
Â
The full triptych was originally published in 1840 (the 11th month) by Izumiya Ichibei and is entitled 'Play: Kaeribana Yuki no Takeda'. The triptych depicts actors (from left to right) Sawamura Tosshô I as Saitô Ryûkô, Iwai Shijaku I as Tsuwaka Myôbu no Kami, and, Ichikawa Ebizô V as Onikojima Yatarô.Â
These old prints have been reframed by our skilled team in a simple matte black wood frame.
The full triptych can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston.Â
Condition:
Some small holes, creases and light tears.Â
