These 19th-century Indian jali window shutters originate from Udaipur, Rajasthan, and retain a wonderfully weathered surface, with layers of old red, cream and earthy paint worn away over generations to reveal the rich patina of the timber beneath.
The pair of tall, narrow shutters features an intricate diamond-patterned wooden lattice, framed by elegant scalloped arches inspired by traditional Mughal architecture. The gently flowing curves of the carved archways contrast beautifully with the geometric jali work.
Original iron fittings, old paintwork and the natural irregularities of the aged wood add to their rustic appeal. Once part of a traditional Indian building, these shutters would make a striking decorative wall feature or could be incorporated into an interior as an architectural element.
