This sturdy iron and teak wood antique Indian box is decorated with hand beaten brass border and panels. It dates from the 19th century.

The style is from Shekhawati, an area in northern Rajasthan. These boxes are locally called peti (casket) and were originally used to store the trousseau (bridal clothes).

Wrought iron handles provide a reliable lift even when fully loaded.
