This antique Indian chest dates to the 19th century and is from the state of Gujarat. It is constructed from teak wood, is bound with iron, and has been mounted on four wheels for easy transportation from room to room. It has wonderful lacquer beading around the lid. These chests would have been used for storing valuables such as textiles, jewelry & cash.

One of its most noticeable features is its beautifully carved lock plate which is carved in the style most often found in Gujarat. It has a wonderful patina but has been conservatively restored in our workshops.
