This antique traditional lock from Kerala adorns the doors of historical Ettukettu and Nalukettu architecture. The lock has become a "style statement" for modern houses in Kerala and other parts of India where it's know by it's traditional name "Manichitrathazhu"

With all parts of the lock being handmade, a wealth of traditional skill and knowledge which has been passed down through the centuries is evident in each one.

The doors themselves are beautifully carved from the very hardwearing Jackfruit wood. This is a medium hardwood with desirable characteristics for furniture making such as being termite proof and resistant to fungus.
