Iron Bound Teak Dowry Chest from Gujarat - 19thC
Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India. This Indian chest has a secret compartment in the top for storing valuables such as textiles, jewellery and cash. The finials show a clear influence of Jainism and as such, this was likely originally owned by a Jain family.
They were usually made from Teak, rosewood or jackfruit wood.

Our pieces are mostly from the 19th century & occasionally 18th and early 20th century.
