This magnificent antique Indian takhat—a traditional daybed from Rajasthan—has been beautifully repurposed as a coffee table. Originating from the Shekhawati region and dating to the 19th century, it is crafted from organic roheda wood, a dense variety of teak prized for its strength and deep, warm tone. The table retains exquisite hand-carved floral detailing along its apron, complemented by the rich patina that has developed over more than a century of use.
The top is made from thick planks bound with hand-forged iron straps, with time-worn patches and repairs that tell the story of its long life. Each imperfection adds to its charm and authenticity. Supported by turned legs and iron stretchers, this solid piece embodies the rugged elegance of Shekhawati craftsmanship and would make a striking rustic centrepiece in any living room, conservatory, or summer house.
