This painted teak house shrine from Gujarat, India dates to the 19th century. It would have been used to house the favorite family Hindu deity which is kept behind carved sunburst doors. The pillars are surmounted by carved figures. It still has the original vermillion paint and later colors.

Originally these shrines were set into a wall.
