This antique brass chapati box dates to around 1900 and would once have been used in Rajasthan for storing and transporting chapati (wheat flatbread) and naan. Round in form and fitted with a secure clasp, these boxes were both practical and decorative, often featuring intricate hand-engraved designs inspired by the geometric motifs of Indian temples.

The lids of these examples are beautifully decorated with concentric engraved borders and floral bosses at the centre, combining utility with artistry. Today, they make a wonderful talking piece for the table, perfect for food presentation at a dinner party or as a stylish, sustainable alternative to modern lunch boxes. Each one carries the marks and patina of daily use, telling the story of a household tradition now over a century old.
