This antique brass chapati box dates to around 1920 and would once have been used in Rajasthan for storing and transporting chapati (wheat flatbread) and naan. Circular in form with a hinged clasp fastening, it reflects the traditional style of Indian lunch boxes that were both practical and enduring.
Unlike the more elaborately engraved examples, this chapati box is plainer in design, its charm lying in the simplicity of its form, the bold loop handle set on a stylised floral boss, and the rich golden patina developed over more than a century of use. Today, it makes a characterful decorative object or can be repurposed for food presentation, storage, or simply as a reminder of India's domestic traditions.
