A practical and charming antique Indian military box dating to the 19th century. It is made from painted teak wood in the Anglo-Indian style and likely would have belonged to a merchant or East Indiaman.
The original brass bindings are typical of the campaign style introduced by the British East India Company. Wheels on the base make for easy movement when loaded.

The interior has a good useable space. There are two open trays, one on each side, that were used for convenient storage of candles.
A sturdy chain prevents the lid from falling open.  And putting strain on the hinges. This chest has been finished in our UK workshops.
