This old Indian pot is known colloquially as a ravitra pani or lota and is from Haryana in Northern India. This style of work merges brass and copper in a technique known as ganga jumna. Ganga Jumna holy water vessels were, and continue to be used in puja ceremonies.

The term Ganga Jumna refers to the confluence of the river Ganges and river Jamuna which is symbolised here by the merging of copper and brass, the two metals used.

This holy water pot has been dutifully hand etched with floral motifs and geometric patterns.
