Bleached Elm Farmers Milking Stool - 19th Century

This traditional antique Chinese bleached elm (榆木 yumu) stool is constructed with a thick plank of solid elm wood as the seat and fixed using traditional Chinese carpentry, wedges and without glue or nails. It dates to the 19th century and has a beautiful flowing wood grain.

These sturdy wooden stools are a vital component of any shabby chic interior and originally would have been used by farm workers. Versatile, they can be used as a side table or as an extra stool for guests at a dinner table.
