A striking 19th century elephant corbel from Tamil Nadu, hand-carved from a single piece of hardwood and now presented on a custom metal stand as a sculptural decorative object. Traditionally used as an architectural support element in South Indian buildings and temples, this beautifully weathered fragment showcases the rich craftsmanship and symbolic artistry associated with Tamil wood carving traditions.
The elephant is intricately detailed with carved ornamental decoration across the body, head and harness, while the aged surface reveals a wonderful natural patina developed over generations. Mounted on a simple black metal stand, the piece works beautifully as a standalone sculpture, bringing warmth, history and character to both contemporary and traditional interiors.
